The government of West Bengal is poised to ink an agreement with the Indian central government on September 28 to establish a new airport in Purulia district under the UDAN scheme, as announced by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. The project aims to bolster air connectivity in the region.
All necessary preparations for the Purulia airport have been completed, and the state has submitted its application for the required operating license. Discussions involving a representative from the civil aviation authorities have been conducted to advance the project further.
The introduction of an airport is anticipated to significantly enhance Purulia’s tourism, infrastructure, and industrial growth. Chief Minister Adhikari emphasized the project’s potential to transform the district’s economic landscape.
In addition to the airport development, the West Bengal government is actively pursuing substantial investments in Purulia. The district is expected to attract investments worth approximately ₹1 lakh crore over the next year, with proposals spanning sectors such as defense, steel, cement, and solar energy.
