Delhi CM Announces Launch of Yamuna Ferry Service Before Chhath Puja

Date:

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced the launch of the “Namo Yamuna” ferry service, scheduled to commence just before the Chhath Puja celebrations from November 13 to 16. The ferry service will operate along the Yamuna River, providing a new mode of transportation and a scenic experience for the public.

The service will feature a one-hour cruise between Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur, covering approximately five kilometers of the Yamuna River. It aims to offer passengers picturesque views of the ghats and natural landscapes along the riverbanks. The ticket price for the ferry ride is expected to be around ₹500 per person.

Chief Minister Gupta recently inspected the ferry at the Sonia Vihar Sports Club and visited Sur Ghat, a location being developed for Chhath Puja celebrations. Sur Ghat is envisioned as a riverside picnic destination where families can gather and offer prayers during the festival.

The ferry service, initially planned for a February 20 launch, faced delays due to incomplete project work. Now ready to set sail, the service’s facilities include jetties with boarding areas, ticket counters, and waiting zones to accommodate passengers.

The vessel, known as Island Boats 40 (IB 40), was constructed by Mumbai-based Inspiration Marine Pvt Ltd. The 40-foot boat boasts a catamaran-style hull, designed to provide stability while navigating the river’s shallow stretches.
