The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust has accepted the resignations of its General Secretary, Champat Rai, and trustee Anil Mishra amidst an investigation into alleged embezzlement of donations meant for the Ram Mandir. Trust treasurer Govind Giri confirmed that the resignations were in line with the trust’s constitutional procedures. While announcing this significant decision, Giri took a moment to acknowledge the important role Champat Rai has played since the inception of the trust.
These resignations have come in the wake of accusations regarding irregularities associated with the counting of the temple’s donations. Pankaj Jaiswal, a senior member of the trust, expressed deep disappointment, labeling the incident as both painful and shameful. He emphasized that the misappropriation of funds donated by devotees is something they cannot accept.
In response to the vacant positions, Krisha Mohan has been appointed as the interim General Secretary, ensuring the trust’s operations continue smoothly. Govind Giri will maintain his role as treasurer during this transitional period. The trust is scheduled to convene again on July 22, by which time they anticipate receiving the final report from the Special Investigation Team (SIT).
Giri has made it clear that the trust is committed to transparency and accountability, asserting that there will be no protection for anyone found guilty of wrongdoing. He stated that all individuals implicated must face legal consequences, regardless of their status within the trust. Currently, eight individuals have been arrested in connection to the alleged theft of donations, and the investigation is still ongoing.
