Barapullah Phase III Corridor Opens in Delhi on September 29

Date:

The long-awaited Barapullah Phase III elevated corridor in Delhi is set to open on September 29, promising to enhance connectivity between key areas such as Mayur Vihar in East Delhi and Noida with parts of South Delhi. This development is expected to alleviate traffic congestion and significantly reduce travel times across these regions.

The 3.5-kilometer corridor will link Mayur Vihar Phase I with Sarai Kale Khan, integrating with the existing Barapullah corridor to offer a largely signal-free route to South Delhi. According to officials, this could cut travel times between East Delhi, Noida, and destinations like AIIMS to approximately 15 minutes, down from the current 35–40 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.

Incorporating a bridge over the Yamuna, the four-lane corridor features nine traffic-distribution loops, connecting ramps, a dedicated cycle track, and pedestrian facilities. This infrastructure aims to offer a comprehensive solution to the area’s longstanding traffic woes.

The project, first approved in 2014, faced multiple delays due to land acquisition issues, necessary clearances, construction challenges, and the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, the project’s cost escalated from an initial estimate of ₹1,260 crore to approximately ₹1,635 crore.

With major structural components like the Yamuna bridge and connecting ramps now complete, final preparations are underway to meet the opening deadline. The new corridor is anticipated to play a vital role in improving daily commutes and boosting connectivity in the bustling capital city.
