Modi’s Independent Foreign Policy Applauded by China in New Statement

Date:

China has embraced Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comments on the nation’s autonomous foreign policy, following his recent meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping during the BRICS Summit in New Delhi. The Chinese Foreign Ministry, through spokesperson Guo Jiakun, acknowledged that Beijing values Modi’s assertion that India’s ties with China will remain unaffected by external influences. The central takeaway from the discussions was a mutual commitment for China and India to act as partners and bolster each other’s growth.

President Xi emphasized the necessity of focusing on collaboration, despite the distinct national contexts of China and India. He advocated for managing differences through mutual respect and understanding. The dialogue underscored the importance both nations place on not allowing their differences to escalate into disputes. Instead, efforts should be directed towards a fair and mutually agreeable resolution of the boundary issues.

Prime Minister Modi reiterated the critical role of peace and stability along the border in enhancing bilateral relations. He highlighted the significance of adhering to existing agreements and understandings regarding border matters. This sentiment aligns with the broader goal to maintain harmony and prevent any escalation of tensions between the two neighboring countries.

This meeting comes after prolonged tensions along the Line of Actual Control, with a notable agreement reached in October 2024 to disengage troops from several contentious areas in the Ladakh sector. This move has been pivotal in easing a long-standing military standoff. Both leaders’ commitment to a peaceful resolution and cooperative partnership marks a significant step in mending ties and fostering a more stable regional environment.
