IndiGo, India’s largest airline, is set to increase fuel charges on all domestic and international flights for bookings made from October 6, 2026. This decision comes in response to a significant rise in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices, which have surged more than 14% month-on-month, leading to increased operating expenses across the aviation sector.
For domestic flights, IndiGo’s revised fuel charges will range from ₹375 for routes up to 500 kilometers to ₹1,300 for distances exceeding 2,000 kilometers. Passengers traveling up to 1,000 kilometers will incur a ₹600 charge, while those on routes between 1,001 and 1,500 kilometers will pay ₹900. Flights covering distances up to 2,000 kilometers will see a charge of ₹1,150.
On the international front, flights on SAARC routes up to 500 kilometers will have a ₹1,000 fuel charge, with longer SAARC routes incurring a ₹3,000 fee. Travelers heading to Southeast Asia, the Gulf, the Middle East, North Asia, and East Asia will face a ₹5,500 charge, while flights to Africa will have a charge of ₹6,000. European routes will see the highest increase, with a ₹10,000 fuel charge.
IndiGo aims to use this adjustment to partially offset the increased operating costs while trying to limit the financial impact on its passengers. The airline stated that it will continue to monitor fuel prices and market conditions to assess further actions if necessary.
