Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and initiated a series of development projects valued at approximately ₹35,000 crore in Gujarat on Tuesday, emphasizing the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and manufacturing. During the ‘NaMo for Viksit Bharat’ event in Vadodara, Modi criticized the preceding Congress-led administration for what he called unnecessary delays in executing significant infrastructure initiatives. He highlighted the completion of India’s 2,800-km dedicated freight corridors as a pivotal advancement in the nation’s transportation network.
Addressing detractors of the freight corridor project, Modi humorously referred to them as “Naraz Fufa” or “angry uncle.” He asserted that the modern freight infrastructure is designed to minimize travel durations, fuel usage, and logistics expenses, while bolstering trade. This development, he noted, would particularly benefit farmers by facilitating the swift movement of agricultural goods to key markets. Modi mentioned that over 430 freight trains are now operational daily on the Eastern and Western Dedicated Freight Corridors, transforming freight journeys that once took about 30 hours by road into 10-12 hour trips via the dedicated rail system.
Modi also took a political jab at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s initiative to engage with the youth, cautioning young individuals against what he termed “Jhooth Ki Goonj” or the “echo of lies.” He urged the youth of India to cultivate skills in artificial intelligence and pointed out prospects in various sectors, including renewable and nuclear energy. Modi noted the country’s notable strides in manufacturing railway coaches, locomotives, and wagons since 2014. Furthermore, he highlighted the expansion in solar energy, mentioning that rooftop solar installations have reached 55 lakh families, with approximately 11 lakh households in Gujarat benefiting from them.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the development of infrastructure across railways, roads, airports, metros, pipelines, and housing is generating significant employment opportunities. He stated that India is constructing the necessary energy and technology ecosystem to position itself as a global leader in artificial intelligence and other advanced industries. By fostering these sectors, Modi envisions a future where India stands at the forefront of technological innovation and economic progress.
