Maharashtra has implemented a new requirement mandating Aadhaar authentication for the registration of immovable property documents starting October 1. This measure aims to enhance security and prevent fraudulent activities associated with property transactions.
The state’s Revenue Minister, Chandrashekhar Bawankule, announced that the new protocol applies to 63 types of property registrations, including sales, purchases, mortgages, and partition deeds. The initiative is designed to minimize cases of impersonation, reduce the occurrence of fake documentation, and limit human intervention in the registration process.
For individuals without an Aadhaar number, alternative arrangements have been made. They must provide proof of having applied for an Aadhaar, along with other government-issued identity documents, to proceed with their property registrations. The information submitted will undergo verification before any transaction is finalized.
Special provisions are also in place for minors and specific eligible categories. Notably, children lacking an Aadhaar number will not be denied access to property registration benefits solely due to the absence of the identification number.
The Maharashtra government aims for this new system to render property registration processes more secure, transparent, and efficient. This initiative is part of a broader effort to streamline operations and safeguard against fraudulent activities in property dealings.
