Union Home Minister Amit Shah has underscored the significance of Uttar Pradesh’s burgeoning defense manufacturing sector, noting the impact of BrahMos missiles produced in the state on regional security dynamics. Speaking at the inauguration of the fourth UP International Trade Show in Greater Noida, Shah emphasized that the BrahMos missiles, assembled and tested at the Lucknow facility, are contributing to strategic deterrence and giving Pakistan “sleepless nights.”
Shah detailed the investments flowing into the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor, which spans six key nodes: Jhansi, Chitrakoot, Lucknow, Agra, Aligarh, and Kanpur. He highlighted the BrahMos Integration and Testing Facility in Lucknow, inaugurated in May 2025, as a cornerstone of the state’s defense sector. The facility, established with an investment of approximately ₹300 crore over nearly 200 acres, commenced production in October 2025 and aims to bolster indigenous defense capabilities while fostering ancillary industries and skilled employment.
In addition to the BrahMos facility, Shah pointed to the production of AK-203 assault rifles in Amethi as evidence of Uttar Pradesh’s expanding role in defense manufacturing. He attributed the state’s success in attracting investment to enhancements in its law-and-order situation and a growing industrial base. The state’s One District, One Product initiative also received praise from Shah, who noted its contribution to job creation for local youth by expanding local industries.
The UP International Trade Show 2026, taking place from September 25 to 29, serves as a platform for manufacturers, MSMEs, exporters, artisans, startups, investors, and international buyers to congregate and explore opportunities for collaboration and growth.
