Piyush Goyal, Finnish Ministers Engage in Talks on Trade and EU Deal

In a bid to enhance economic ties, India’s Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal recently engaged in discussions with Finland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Riikka Purra, as well as Minister of Economic Affairs Sakari Puisto. The meetings aimed at bolstering trade and investment between India and Finland by exploring various avenues of collaboration.

The dialogue primarily centered on expanding partnerships in vital sectors such as digitalisation, innovation, and research and development. Both countries expressed interest in fostering connections with startups and businesses, highlighting the potential for growth in these areas. Additionally, the discussions included opportunities to work together on emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, 6G, quantum technologies, semiconductors, and space and sustainability initiatives.

A significant topic on the agenda was the proposed India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The ministers deliberated on how this agreement could serve as a catalyst for increasing bilateral trade, attracting investments, and opening up new business opportunities for both nations.

These meetings take place amid ongoing negotiations between India and the European Union to establish a comprehensive trade agreement. The goal of these talks is to solidify economic relations and boost cooperation across various strategic sectors, paving the way for a more integrated economic partnership.
