In a significant move to combat drug abuse, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan.’ This initiative is a call to India’s youth to spearhead a nationwide campaign against substance abuse. The campaign is designed as a 100-week public involvement drive, incorporating a variety of awareness activities that will take place every Sunday. These activities include sports events, walkathons, meditation sessions, cultural programs, and community outreach efforts.
Addressing the campaign participants via a virtual platform, Modi highlighted the grave threat posed by drug trafficking, which he claimed is being exploited by hostile forces to undermine India’s interests and weaken its younger generation. He stressed the importance of safeguarding young people from addiction as a crucial step towards building a ‘Viksit Bharat,’ or Developed India.
Modi also commended the enthusiastic participation of over one crore youths from diverse backgrounds in the campaign. He underscored the vital role these young individuals play in the movement, as their involvement is essential in spreading the message and raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse across communities.
Moreover, the Prime Minister noted that lakhs of young participants have committed to abstaining from drugs. These youths have taken the pledge to not only stay away from drugs themselves but also actively engage in spreading awareness within their communities, thereby amplifying the campaign’s impact at the grassroots level.
Through this initiative, Modi aims to galvanize the collective strength of India’s youth, turning them into a formidable force against the pervasive issue of drug abuse, and setting the foundation for a healthier, more developed nation.
