Google has rolled out its Gemini in Chrome artificial intelligence features to Android users in India, integrating AI-powered assistance into the Chrome browser. This update enables users to summarize webpages, connect information across various Google services, and perform a myriad of web-based tasks directly within their browser.
The Gemini in Chrome feature is designed as an AI assistant, accessible on Android devices, offering functionalities like webpage summaries, connections with services such as Gmail and Calendar, and image generation. Additionally, a more advanced auto-browse feature is being introduced for desktop and Android devices, available to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers in India.
This auto-browse feature empowers Gemini to navigate websites and complete certain tasks on behalf of users. It can manage activities such as comparing products, finding deals, booking event tickets, making restaurant reservations, and scheduling appointments. The feature is tailored to handle complex, multi-step activities that typically require users to navigate between several webpages and perform multiple actions.
To ensure safe AI browsing, Google has introduced safeguards to mitigate potential risks. Gemini is equipped to identify threats, including prompt-injection attempts, and it prompts users for confirmation before completing sensitive actions. Such measures are crucial when an AI system is capable of making changes, submitting forms, or conducting transactions on behalf of a user.
The extent of multi-step tasks users can perform through auto-browse depends on their Google AI subscription. Google AI Pro subscribers can execute up to 20 multi-step requests daily, whereas Google AI Ultra subscribers can make up to 200 requests per day. Through this expansion, Google aims to enhance agentic AI capabilities within Chrome, moving beyond simple AI inquiries to enable users to accomplish tasks across the web.
