All Eyes Were on India, and India Delivered Everything Promised

Date:

One hundred thousand people attended the T20 World Cup final. Hundreds of millions watched at home. The pressure to deliver was immense. India delivered. Their 96-run victory over New Zealand — posting 255 in the first innings and bowling the Black Caps out for 159 — made them the first men’s team to successfully defend the T20 World Cup title. When the whole world is watching, India play their best cricket.

The performance began with Abhishek Sharma’s magnificent 50 off 18 balls, which powered a powerplay of 92 for no loss — equalling the World Cup record. Sanju Samson’s 89 off 46 was the innings’ centrepiece, an anchor knock of real quality that gave the innings its best foundation. Ishan Kishan’s 54 off 25 extended the total into the 200s at high speed, and the team reached 191 for one at the drinks break after 14 overs.

New Zealand’s bowling was expensive. Lockie Ferguson’s first over went for 24, Matt Henry’s for 21, and Jacob Duffy conceded 15 on recall. India’s final total of 255 represented their third score above 250 in the tournament — a stunning display of batting consistency at the highest level. The late wickets brought by Neesham’s unusual over (one run, three wickets) added statistical drama without changing the match’s fundamental dynamic.

Bumrah’s three wickets with slow yorkers were decisive with the ball, and New Zealand were dismissed for 159. Their chase was never competitive, and the final margin of 96 told the whole story of a match India dominated from the first delivery to the last.

Champions of the world. Again. And in front of everyone who wanted to watch. India truly performed when the whole world was watching.
