No More Deals: Trump Unleashes 50% Tariffs on EU, Targets iPhones in Trade Shift

Date:

In a stunning policy reversal, President Trump announced the immediate imposition of a 50% tariff on European Union imports, effective June 1. Citing stalled negotiations and a desire to “play the game” his way, Trump signaled a clear departure from diplomatic efforts.
Apple and other tech giants were put on notice, with Trump threatening at least a 25% tariff on imported iPhones if manufacturing is not relocated to the US. The president’s message to Apple CEO Tim Cook was blunt: “No US production, no tariff exemption.”
The move follows a brief period of de-escalation in April. Despite ongoing efforts by administration officials to negotiate, Trump now insists he’s “not looking for a deal,” favoring swift, unilateral action over drawn-out talks.
